19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with former coach Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
