An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The legal representative continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member notified the law enforcement once more.
She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
